Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest electricity generators and producer of heat and operates in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. Our strategy is to reduce emissions from power generation with a road map to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
The Offshore wind industry is in rapid change, we are now entering the next level of integration and therefore we are looking for a System Design Associate Engineer for our Offshore wind windfarm design team.
Overall purpose of the role
Aided with a best in class model framework, the System Design Associate engineer will navigate through the millions of possible combinations of components, methods and approaches, to narrow the solution space down to a few scenarios - the ones that has the highest potential for future Vattenfall wind parks.
In close corporation with the design leads for our development projects, you gather site inputs, constraints and environmental aspects, forming the project envelope and prepare our models for running millions of scenarios.
You will work closely together with modelling experts, and your work will drive the direction of our park designs and guide our business decisions as well as making credible pre-evaluation of new technologies on product, system and park level. The achieved findings and recommendations are essential to guide Vattenfalls technology planning and technology roadmaps in order to be able to develop, construct and operate the most cost efficient windfarms in the world.
Your responsibilities as a System Design Associate Engineer:
• Gather and shape site envelopes for new projects.
• Guide the running of the Matlab based Vattenfall model framework to identify most promising scenarios to work on.
• Preparing the initial conceptual wind park design in collaboration with System Design
• Work with the Roadmap teams (WTG, Foundations, Logistics, Transmission, O&M and System) to define the solution space for the Project and ensure that the optimized Wind Farm Products are delivered to the Projects - identifying, planning and coordinating their input.
• Transfer of technical input into project specific CAPEX, OPEX and AEP which form the basis of first iteration Business Case calculations.
• Constantly quality ensure inputs and outputs.
• Navigate our Matlab based model environment to aid the development of LEC/LER projections for projects, and the setting of our technology plans.
Your qualifications as a System Design Associate Engineer
Our successful candidate has an Engineering Master’s degree (or equal) with a relevant scope such as wind engineering. You are strong in your Matlab capabilities.
You enjoy the challenge of combining all possible solutions into the best potential wind farm blue print designs (scenarios), with a constant view on the bigger picture. Sitting in the System design department, a profound system understanding with multiple parameters and interfaces, embracing high complexity, is paramount.
